A man working in office feeling exhausted.

Do you find yourself feeling tired all the time even after a full night’s sleep? Well, you are not alone. Fatigue is one of the most common complaints I hear from my clients. While stress, poor sleep, and hormonal changes play a role but your diet could be the hidden culprit.

Let’s explore some common nutritional mistakes that silently drain your energy and what you can do to fix them.

Too Many Refined Carbs, Not Enough Protein

White bread, sugary cereals, and bakery treats may give you a quick energy spike but it’s usually followed by a crash. If your meals are mostly carb-heavy with little protein or fiber, your blood sugar levels swing wildly, making you feel sluggish.

Include protein with every meal. Think lentils, eggs, paneer, Greek yogurt, tofu, or lean meats. Pair with complex carbs like oats, millets, and brown rice for balanced energy.

You’re Not Eating Enough (Especially Breakfast!)

Busy mornings often mean skipping meals or just grabbing a coffee. But your body needs fuel not just caffeine. You should start your day with a protein-rich breakfast. Even a quick option like a boiled egg with multigrain toast or a smoothie with nuts and seeds can help you stay energized till lunch.

Low Iron or Vitamin B12

If you feel constantly weak, light-headed, or mentally foggy, it could be due to low iron or B12 especially common in vegetarians and women with heavy periods.

You can add iron-rich foods like green leafy veggies, lentils, and seeds. Include vitamin C (like lemon or amla) to enhance absorption. Consider testing your levels and supplementing if needed.

You’re Dehydrated

Mild dehydration can feel just like fatigue. You should aim for at least 2–2.5 liters of water daily. Lemon, mint, or cucumber can be included if plain water feels boring.

You’re Snacking the Wrong Way

Frequent low-nutrient snacks like chips, biscuits, or juices can keep your body in a sugar rollercoaster. Choose energy-sustaining snacks like roasted chana, fruit with nuts, hummus with carrots, or boiled eggs.
